Research thesis completed:

  • Developed a bio-indication model to detect phosphate and nitrate pollution using diatoms as bio-indicators. (Site: River Mole and river Thames, London)
  • Investigating vegetation and ecosystem diversity with respect to management practices in Indian Tropical rain forests (Site: Western Ghats).

Skillset and Analytical Expertise:

  • Developing environmental restoration projects.
  • Development of restoration strategies based on succession models (reference states to progression).
  •  Vegetation diversity analysis (scattering and vegetation mapping).
  • Cartographic and geo-informatics system modeling.
  • Development of post project monitoring systems (system progression analysis e.g. Lake restoration project; eradication of invasive species in forests).
  •  Chemical analysis of Lake and river systems (trophic analysis; geo-chemical analysis)
  • Pollution analysis using HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography)
  •  Trace element detection using (Flame Induction Spectrometry)
  • Water treatment and detection of phosphates and nitrates using on field equipment and laboratory techniques.
  • Detection of trace elements in tree-rings using Itrax-XRF (X- Ray fluorescence).
  • Gamma rays refraction for detection of trace elements using Itrax multi-scanner.
  • Statistical modeling using Minitab-14

Secondary and Higher Secondary School education:

  • Scored 7.0 marks out of 9.0 in I.E.L.T.S [International English Language Testing Systems] conducted by the British Council and IDP Australia

2005-2006

  • Understanding Restoration trajectories and application of restoration measures.
  •  Wetland restoration and vegetation survey (distribution analysis)
  • Diversity analysis with respect to fire burn intervals.
  • August 2011: Apprentice at University of Greifswald for Climate Change proxy analysis using Dendrochronology and Dendrochemistry.
  • Past climate reconstruction using ring-width signal
  • Environmental signal differentiation using statistics.
  • Using ITRX-XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) to detect pollution signals
  • September 2008: Educational Assistant at Field Studies Center Juniper hall- Dorking. This is a company which promotes environmental studies and hosts many schools/universities for carrying out Biological/ Geographical course work. It also hosts commercial ecological researches.
  •  Equipment calibration
  • Collection of water samples for basic BOD and COD analysis.
  • Collection of water samples for pollution analysis (River Mole and River Thames)
  • Technical assistant.
  • Identification of diatoms, zoo-plankton and phyto-plankton
  • October 2006: Floor manager at McDonalds, Gatwick Airport. Working in the Drive Through team. This job helped me develop quick decision making skills and the ability to work well under pressure. This was also a good opportunity to learn managing people and motivating them to bring out their best abilities and working as team leader.
  • 2004 - 2006 Swimming instructor at Pegasus Health Club, Pune, India.

Teaching a wide age-range of students. Working with special-needs children including autistic and physically challenged students. This helped me to develop my patience and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by some people within our society.

Achievements:

  • Awarded an International MENSA scholarship for outstanding results in logistic quotient and IQ tests; subsequently completed ecological study projects and tours through MENSA MEGA. 2001-2002
  • Awarded a Life Guard’s certificate by the International Lifesaving Society (ILS) and RLS [Royal Lifesaving Society UK / Australia], and RLS [Rashtriya Life Saving Society India] (Year 2004 - 2006)
  • Awarded Certificate of Merit in Geography Talent Search by Pune Geography Teachers’ Association.

Interests:

Swimming and performing yoga are very important to me in my recreational times. Swimming actually developed from a simple hobby to progressing to a professional coach and gave me an opportunity to develop my interaction skills; particularly with regards to communication and the creativity to develop teaching methods for challenged students. Since 1999 I have been a keen student and performer of Indian Classical Music and have performed in concerts with an accomplished Indian Classical vocalist. I also have a keen interest in nature and landscape photography. I also have web galleries at www.flickr.com/photos/rohanshetti/
